ESPRIT/MS PowerFold for MicroStation Modeler Ships; Newest of "best-of-breed" mechanical engineering application streamlines sheetmetal product lifecycles.CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1996--Bentley Systems, Inc. and DP Technology today announced that ESPRIT/MS PowerFold for MicroStation Modeler is now shipping. The mechanical engineering software product streamlines the design and manufacturing process of sheetmetal products and metal stamping dies. Design and manufacturing engineers use PowerFold to produce more manufacturable designs and accurately plan the manufacturing process. PowerFold is integrated with MicroStation Modeler using the single engineering model. The single engineering model in MicroStation Modeler contains all product information so users can quickly and efficiently perform modeling, detailing, analysis and, now with PowerFold, manufacturing planning. Users work with a single user interface and there is no need for data translation and no loss in data resolution. Peter Brooks Peter Brooks (born 1938) is Sterling Professor of Comparative Literature at Yale University. He is formerly Professor in the Department of English and School of Law at the University of Virginia. , director of mechanical engineering products at Bentley, comments, "The integration of the PowerFold technologies into the MicroStation Modeler environment provides a breakthrough for engineers in design and manufacturing. They no longer have to experiment with flat pattern designs, wondering if the final pattern matches the dimensions of the design." He adds, "The easy-to-access PowerFold capabilities result in better products and a streamlined product lifecycle Product lifecycle or product life cycle is the course of a product's sales and profits over time. The five stages of each product lifecycle are product development, introduction, growth, maturity and decline. ." PowerFold automates the process of unfolding and folding a design. It prepares the 3D design for manufacturing and verifies that the final product will match the original 3D model. Unique "intelligent unfolding" technology in PowerFold factors weld lines, bend lines, and material characteristics into this simulation. As a result, time and materials labor and materials (time and materials) n. what some builders or repair people contract to provide and be paid for, rather than a fixed price or a percentage of the costs. are not wasted through traditional trial and error processes. Daniel Frayssinet, president of DP Technology, states, "Our goal is to provide advanced automation for designers and manufacturers that significantly increases their productivity. We have for years provided stand-alone PowerFold capability that has been very successful for all our users. The integration of PowerFold into the MicroStation environment will increase the productivity of our customers and expand the use of this technology." Other "best-of-breed" mechanical applications using the single engineering model of MicroStation Modeler include Structural Research & Analysis Corporation's COSMOS/M DESIGNER II, for structural analysis; Baystate Technologies' DRAFT-PAK Mechanical and Econocap Engineering's Ece-Mechanics for automated GD&T, standard parts generation, and bill of materials The list of components that make up a system. For example, a bill of materials for a house would include the cement block, lumber, shingles, doors, windows, plumbing, electric, heating and so on. generation; DP Technology's ESPRIT/MS CAM for milling, turning, and wire EDM (Engineering Data Management) An information system that maintains the details of all engineering data while the product is in the design and concept phase. This includes geometry and changes to geometry. See PLM.
