ESPNET SportsZone WWW site to debut new ScorePost(TM) Java application -- Java Innovation Gives Sports Fans Scrolling Customized Updates, Advertisers Jump from the Internet to the desktop --.


BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 1996--ESPNET SportsZone (http://espnet.sportszone.com), one of the World Wide Web's most visited and most popular sites with both users and advertisers, debuted a never-before-used Java programming application called ScorePost(TM).

ScorePost moves advertising messages and high-value editorial content from cyberspace Coined by William Gibson in his 1984 novel "Neuromancer," it is a futuristic computer network that people use by plugging their minds into it! Since ESPNET SportsZone went online on April 1, 1995, the award-winning site has been sought-after by Internet advertisers. ScorePost is written in Sun MicroSystems' Java programming language and was created by a Starwave team led by Patrick Naughton, senior vice president of technology and Rich LeFurgy, vice president of advertising and product marketing. Java is what makes it possible for a user to drag the live ScorePost window onto any other software application on the computer. With a live Netscape connection, it can be kept open for constant updates while using another application. To view ScorePost, people need a personal computer running Windows 95 or NT and Netscape 2.0.
