ESI Receives Multi-System Order for its Model 6650A Visual Test System from a Major Japanese Manufacturer.

Order Reinforces ESI's Role as the Leading Provider of Advanced Solutions for the Passive Components Industry

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq:ESIO ESIO Earth Sciences Information Office (Environmental Institute; University of Massachusetts) ), a leading provider of world-class photonic Dealing with light (photons). See photon and photonics.  micro-engineering solutions, today announced that a major Japanese multi-layer ceramic capacitor A Ceramic Capacitoris a capacitor constructed of alternating layers of metal and ceramic, with the ceramic material acting as the dielectric. Depending on the dielectric, whether Class 1 or Class 2, the degree of temperature/capacity dependence varies.  (MLCC MLCC Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor

) manufacturer has placed a multi-system order for ESI's Model 6650A Visual Test System. The industry's leading test solution for detecting the most challenging visual defects on capacitors, inductors and varistors, the 6650A includes superior vision technology and flexibility to handle a wide range of MLCC sizes. This customer will employ the 6650A system for high-volume MLCC manufacturing.

Today's MLCC manufacturers are driven to increase production and shorten cycle times without sacrificing quality. The 6650A system is designed to meet an important quality-control step in the manufacturing process by identifying defects that can hinder the solder solder (sŏd`ər), metal alloy used in the molten state as a metallic binder. The type of solder to be used is determined by the metals to be united. Soft solders are commonly composed of lead and tin and have low melting points. . Through its patented three-image processing, the 6650A enables distinct two- and three-dimensional characterization of defects, providing the greatest flexibility and accuracy of any available MLCC test system.

"Our customers expect ESI (Edge Side Includes) A markup language for Web pages that enables elements of a Web page to be dynamically assembled in servers distributed throughout the Internet.  to provide a superior-value solution that performs with unparalleled precision and productivity," explained Vernon Cooke, ESI passive components product marketing manager. "Currently in use by several MLCC manufacturers worldwide, the 6650A combines two of ESI's core technology competencies: small parts handling and visual inspection. After a stringent evaluation of many machines, this valued customer chose the 6650A as the most cost-effective, advanced technology solution for its manufacturing environment. ESI continues to develop industry-leading solutions that enable higher yields, improved time to market and lower cost of ownership for our global MLCC customers."

6650A Features

The ESI Model 6650A Visual Test System provides automatic visual inspection of surface-mount MLCC, inductor inductor, electric device consisting of one or more turns of wire and typically having two terminals. An inductor is usually connected into a circuit in order to raise the inductance to a desired value. , bead and varistor chips. By using structured LED lighting, chip inspection includes 3-dimensional capabilities to identify hard-to-locate features of depth and projection such as chip-outs, cracks, exposed electrodes Electrodes
