``By his own admission he's gone to the beach, he's gone to amusement parks, he's gone to other parks where people are with their children, where people would normally be having a leisure time,'' said Tip Kindel, the department's assistant director.

``We're hoping that maybe someone in these areas, by seeing the picture on television and realizing he's frequented these places, it may click, `Oh gee, maybe I saw that guy the other day,' '' he said.

Anderson broke out of the medical facility April 10 after cutting the bars in his cell and slipping past an unmanned guard tower.

Anderson's postcard was received one day before Los Angeles police found a pickup truck he commandeered after kidnapping a Dixon man. The truck was found in a parking lot in a residential neighborhood in Van Nuys.

The contents of the letter were not released until Thursday.

In the letter, Anderson said he was sorry for the murder for which he was convicted and vowed not to become violent if stopped by police. He did not say which amusement parks or beaches he had visited.

He said that as he fled the Vacaville area, he ``refused several `opportunities' because they were women or people with children with them.''
