ESCAGENETICS ELECTS RICHARD E. MOSER PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

 SAN CARLOS, Calif., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- ESCAgenetics Corp. (ESCA) (AMEX: ESN), a pioneer in plant-derived biotechnology products for the pharmaceutical and food industries, today announced that its board of directors has elected Richard E. Moser president, chief executive officer and director, effective Feb. 1, 1994. According to the company, Moser will replace Douglas J. MacMaster Jr. on the ESCA board thereby permitting MacMaster to focus his attention as chairman of ESCA's subsidiary company, PHYTOpharmaceuticals Inc.
 Moser will take on the responsibilities of president and chief executive officer relinquished by Dr. Raymond J. Moshy, who will continue and expand his duties as chairman of the ESCA board.
 "Dick Moser is the ideal choice since he is a past ESCAgenetics board member and has worked with several emerging growth companies. He knows the company, its products and its growth potential and will hit the ground running," said Moshy. Moser served on ESCAgenetics' board of directors from 1987 to 1992.

 Moser, 52, has been president of R&D Funding Corp., an affiliate of Prudential Securities Inc., and senior vice president of Prudential Securities since 1985. From 1982 to 1985 he was president of Lefcourt Group Inc., a financial planning, securities and syndication firm. Prior to that, he was vice president, corporate development of Arcata Corp., a multi-industry Fortune 500 company. During the last eleven years, he has served on the boards of directors of numerous private and public companies, including Synbiotics Corp., Syntro Corp., Hana Biologics Inc., Optical Specialties Inc. and Silvar-Lisco.
 Moser is a decorated marine Corps combat pilot and a former Presidential helicopter pilot. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Yale University and his Master of Business Administration degree at Stanford University.
