 ERC LICENSEE FORMS EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM
DANBURY, Conn., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Energy Research Corporation

(NASDAQ: ERCC; BSE: ERC) announced that agreements were signed between ERC and a European consortium that will coordinate fuel cell activities with ERC, directed at commercializing ERC's Direct Fuel Cell for European customers. The consortium has committed approximately DM130 million ($90 million) towards this activity.
The consortium is made up of ERC's licensee Deutsche Aerospace AG of Germany, a subsidiary of Daimler Benz AG, and a group of German and Danish companies, including RWE Aktiengesellschaft, Ruhrgas Aktiengesellschaft, Elkraft A.m.b.A. and Haldor Topsoe A/S.
The formal announcement had been delayed to permit German antitrust authorities to review the agreements.
Dr. Bernard S. Baker, president and CEO of Energy Research noted: "This agreement is a very positive step towards our overall fuel cell commercialization efforts worldwide. We're pleased with the increase in support it will bring to our manufacturing subsidiary in Torrington, as well as the technological input towards the commercialization of the Direct Fuel Cell in North America."
Direct Fuel Cells convert the energy contained in the fuels - natural gas, coal gas, biogas, etc. - directly into electricity. There is no combustion, as with conventional power generators, so they operate more efficiently and produce significantly less pollution and noise.
Energy Research Corporation, located in Danbury and Torrington, Conn., is engaged in the commercialization of highly efficient and environmentally benign electric power generation equipment for utilities using its Direct Fuel Cell technology, and in the development of advanced storage batteries.
