ER/Studio 5.1 provides the ability to model reference data, and help users enhance data model clarity and usability How easy something is to use. Both software and Web sites can be tested for usability. Considering how difficult applications are to use and Web sites are to navigate, one would wish that more designers took this seriously. The latest release also adds enhanced physical database support through storage objects, and support for Oracle 9i and IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  DB2 AS/400 databases.

New features in ER/Studio 5.1 include:

* Flexible user extensibility: Version 5.1 introduces metadata (1) (meta-data) Data that describes other data. The term may refer to detailed compilations such as data dictionaries and repositories that provide a substantial amount of information about each data element.  structures that allow users to define and to apply custom properties or attachments to any objects in their data models, enabling users to extend ER/Studio to suit internal requirements for building and documenting database designs.

* Reference values ref·er·ence values

A set of laboratory test values obtained from an individual or from a group in a defined state of health.
: The new facilities can be used to define the data values or value ranges valid for commonly referenced table columns.

* Enhanced physical database support: ER/Studio 5.1 supports data storage objects for Oracle and IBM databases.

* Broader database platform support: ER/Studio 5.1 adds support for Oracle 9i and IBM DB2 for AS/400.
