EQUINE ASSEMBLY; HORSE REPLICAS ON DISPLAY AT LOCAL MUSEUM.

Tucked away in a bedroom upstairs at the Stagecoach stagecoach, heavy, closed vehicle on wheels, usually drawn by horses, formerly used to transport passengers and goods overland. Museum officials said Corina Roberts, who created the exhibit using her own Breyer Creations model horses and others lent to her by fellow enthusiasts, began collecting the figures when she was 6 years old.

The exhibit room at the top of the stairs is crammed with Breyers, small replicas of horses of all kinds, carefully arranged in groups and in ways that show off the intricate hand-painted details of each piece.

Museum officials said they are happy to display items from personal collectors if there is a link in some way to their museum - a replica of a turn-of-the-century hotel in Newbury Park.

``It was wonderful of her to come in and to have done all of this by herself,'' Sandy Hildebrandt, the museum's director, said Saturday.

But closer inspection reveals a pattern and a loosely told story of the history of horses over the last five decades, and a very clear reason for placement of each of the 180 pieces.

Sprinkled among the figures are written statements of how the horses were brought to the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. Roberts could not be reached about the display, but the many pamphlets she left for visitors to read as they go through the hands-on exhibit clearly reveal her love of horses.

``I am honored to share with you the rich history of the horse,'' she writes in a sign welcoming guests of the museum.

The museum is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
