Meanwhile, the Castaic Elementary School elementary school: see school.  teacher will attend an end-of- the-term luncheon Friday in the City of Industry for 50 teachers nominated for honors in the current school year, including the 11 co-winners chosen along with her in September.

``We've definitely had a lot of visitors in our classroom, which the kids just love,'' DiMonte, a teacher for 16 years, said about the months since she was selected for honors. ``The praise has been so worthwhile and reaffirms that we're doing things right. There are so many great teachers out there, and I'm looking forward to praising them.''

One of her kindergarten students, Summer Gayheart, said she wishes DiMonte could be her teacher every year through high school.

``That would be cool, because she doesn't yell, and she does math with us,'' the 6-year-old said. ``And she tells us if we say the words wrong, and then she says the words. They're usually funny words she says.''

The qualifications of dozens of nominees are considered annually before selection of 12 in the Teacher of the Year program organized by the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

Among last year's nominees invited to the luncheon Friday are Charlotte Brandt from Rosedell Elementary, Elizabeth Virnelson from La Mesa La Mesa (lə mā`sə), city (1990 pop. 52,931), San Diego co., S Calif., a suburb of San Diego; inc. 1912. It is a retail center and a popular residence for upper- and middle-income professionals in the San Diego area.  Junior High and Linda Sarian, a high school teacher in the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts. .
