EPSON Introduces Single-Chip System Power Supply for Intel Xscale CPU.Business Editors & High-Tech Writers NOTE TO MEDIA: Multimedia assets available SAN JOSE San Jose, city, United States San Jose (sănəzā`, săn hōzā`), city (1990 pop. 782,248), seat of Santa Clara co., W central Calif.; founded 1777, inc. 1850. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 2003 S1F81100, 4-Channel Out-Put IC Arrives in New Compact Package for Mobile, Wireless and Advanced Multimedia Communications EPSON EPSON Son of Electronic Printer Electronics America (EEA EEA European Economic Area EEA European Environment Agency EEA Employment Equity Act (Canada) EEA Een En Ander (Dutch) EEA Erick van Egeraat Associated Architects EEA Energy and Environmental Analysis ), today announced a new single-chip system power supply IC, S1F81100, for mobile, wireless and multi-media-rich communications products using Intel(R) Xscale(TM) Technology. The new S1F81100 integrates all of the power supply functions required by the Intel PXA250 Applications Processor and delivers low-power consumption in a new, small form factor, a prerequisite for cellular phones, PDAs, Point of Sale (PoS) terminals and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). "This is just the first in a series of S1Fx ICs to provide features which address the designers' needs for high-performance, space-savings and low-power consumption," said Yoji Mineishi, senior marketing engineer, EPSON Standard Products. "As next-generation mobile communications reference designs are planned and as OEMs of products from ATMs to battery-driven devices continue to require power supply chips to perform conversions while saving energy, Epson will continue using its energy-saving expertise to deliver value-added chips like the new S1F81100." The fast, 1MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. synchronous rectifier rectifier, component of an electric circuit used to change alternating current to direct current. Rectifiers are made in various forms, all operating on the principle that current passes through them freely in one direction but only slightly or not at all in the circuit features a current/voltage return and short-circuit proof circuit using a rectified pulse width modulation See PWM. (PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) A modulation technique that generates variable-width pulses to represent the amplitude of an analog input signal. Like its fixed-width pulse density modulation (PDM) cousin, the output switching transistor is on more of the time for a ) controller. Four independent channels of power output are controlled separately, and are well suited for advanced communications devices. The S1F81100 combines high conversion efficiency with low power consumption enabling the use of more compact external components including coils while implementing fast response time to load fluctuation. The S1F81100 4-channel regulator includes: -- CH-1 PWM controller, output 0.8V(tilde)1.5V -- CH-2 & 3 PWM controller, output 1.8V, 2.5V & 3.3V, with settings made through the I2C bus -- CH-4 Series regulator, output 0.8V(tilde)1.5V, the same voltage as output voltage as CH-1 in sleep status while in sleep status -- CH-1 to 3 High conversion efficiency of 90% or greater Availability, Packaging and Price Samples of EPSON's S1F81100 are available now in a QFP (Quad FlatPack) A square, surface mount chip package that has leads on all four sides and comes in several varieties. PQFP (Plastic QFP) may refer to all of the following QFP types. All quad flatpacks use gull-wing leads, except for the CQFP, which stick straight out. 48-pin package. EPSON is scheduled to release a Chip Scale Package A chip scale package (CSP) (sometimes, chip-scale package with a hyphen) is a type of integrated circuit chip carrier. According to the IPC, to qualify as chip scale, the package must have an area no greater than 1.2 times that of the die that is being packaged. (CSP (1) (Certified Systems Professional) An earlier award for successful completion of an ICCP examination in systems development. See ICCP. (2) (Commerce Service P ) wafer level in Q2'03. The S1F81100 is priced at $2.25 each in quantities of 100K or more.
