EPA SELECTS REMEDY FOR CLEANUP AT THE CHEMFORM, INC. SUPERFUND SITE IN POMPANO BEACH, FLA.

ATLANTA, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today that a Record of Decision (ROD) has been signed for the Chemform, Inc. Superfund site in Pompano Beach, Fla.
The ROD outlines the remedy that will be used to address soil contamination in Operable Unit 2 (OU2).
EPA, in consultation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, has selected a "No Further Action" remedy for OU2. The results of the Remedial Investigation (RI) and Risk Assessment indicate that the soils at the site pose no significant threat to human health or the environment.
The ROD and the Administrative Record, a compilation of documents which formed the basis for EPA's selection of the remedy, are available for public review at the Broward County Main Library, Government Documents Department, 100 South Andrews Avenue, NE, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
EPA held a public meeting concerning the proposed plan for Operable Unit 2 on Aug. 4, at the Pompano Beach Civic Center. A public comment period was held for 30 days to allow local residents an opportunity to express their opinions and concerns regarding EPA's proposal for cleanup.
The Chemform site is located at 1410 SW Eighth Street in Pompano Beach, Fla. The facility occupies approximately four acres in a highly industrialized section of Broward County. Chemform designed, manufactured, and marketed electro-chemical machines for industries involved in the fabrication of metal parts. Most of the company's business was conducted with the aerospace industry as a certified station for the repair and refurbishment of turbine engine components.
