EPA SELECTS REMEDY FOR CLEANUP AT THE CHEMFORM, INC. SUPERFUND SITE IN
 POMPANO BEACH, FLA.
ATLANTA, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today that a Record of Decision (ROD) has been signed for the Chemform, Inc. Superfund site in Pompano Beach, Fla.
The ROD outlines the remedy that will be used to address groundwater contamination in Operable Unit 1 (OU1).
EPA, in consultation with the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation, has selected a "No Action with Monitoring" remedy for OU1. The results of the Remedial Investigation (RI) indicate that the groundwater at the site poses no significant threat to human health or the environment. Therefore, groundwater monitoring will be conducted for no less than one year.
The ROD and the Administrative Record, a compilation of documents which formed the basis for EPA's selection of the remedy, are available for public review at the Broward County Main Library, Government Documents Department, 100 South Andrews Avenue, NE, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The Remedial Investigation for Operable Unit 2 will resume following soil removal. A public meeting and public comment period will be held in late 1993, at the completion of the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study.
The Chemform site is located at 1410 SW Eighth Street in Pompano Beach, Fla. The facility occupies approximately four acres in a highly industrialized section of Broward County. Chemform designed, manufactured and marketed electro-chemical machines for industries involved in the fabrication of metal parts. Most of the company's business was conducted with the aerospace industry as a certified repair station for the repair and refurbishment of turbine engine components.
