ENVIRONMENTAL TECTONICS CORPORATION INSTALLS FLIGHT ORIENTATION TRAINER AT LUFTWAFFE AEROMEDICAL CENTER

SOUTHAMPTON, Pa., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Environmental Tectonics Corporation (AMEX: ETC) celebrated its installation of the Flight Orientation Trainer (FOT) at the Luftwaffe Aeromedical Center in Furstenfeldbruck, Germany, on May 13, 1993.
The FOT, worth about 4 million Deutsche Mark (or $2.5 million), will be used for training pilots in spatial orientation. Spatial disorientation is an often fatal phenomenon that occurs when a pilot loses physical sight of the horizon and experiences disorientation in his/her perception of motion and attitude in space during flight.
According to Dr. Rolf Amendt, the head physician at the Luftwaffe Aeromedical Center, the main purpose of the FOT is to find the performance limitations of the individual pilot and train him to depend solely on the plane's instruments in the case of spatial disorientation. The pilot sees realistic, computer-generated landscapes on a wide screen and reacts by manipulating interactive controls in a simulated cockpit.
ETC has designed and manufactured flight simulators for more than 20 years for militaries worldwide. "The Luftwaffe is a well-respected branch of the military, and ETC's design and installation of this simulator will serve to enhance our reputation in the industry," said ETC Vice President Bernhard Richter. According to Richter, ETC's proprietary design can simulate any attitude of an airplane as well as various natural scenes, such as dawn, dusk, nighttime, fog and rain. In addition, accident situations can be simulated to train the pilot in emergency situations.
ETC designs, manufactures and installs aircrew training systems, sterilization equipment, hyperbaric systems, environmental testing and simulation systems, and related products for domestic and international customers. ETC is listed on the AMEX and traded under the stock symbol "ETC."
