Some of the lawsuit settlements that resulted in environmental policy changes:

CASE: Western Council of Industrial Workers and American Forest Resource Council vs. Secretary of Interior

RESULT: The government agreed to relax environmental rules that require detailed surveys of forest life before logging of federal lands in the Pacific Northwest. The administration said it plans to discontinue ``survey and manage'' requirements on 24 million acres of public land.

RESULT: A federal appeals court in December lifted an injunction issued by a district judge in Idaho that had suspended the Clinton administration's ``roadless rule,'' which banned logging and road construction on a third of national forest lands.
