HOUSTON-based Waste Management Inc. topped the list of environmental firms again this year, with more than 1,000 employees in Los Angeles County and more than 50,000 employees companywide.

Company-wide revenues were $11 billion in 2000, about the same as in 1999. Waste Management provides solid waste handling and disposal and pollution control services for commercial, residential, municipal and industrial customers nationwide. Founded in 1972, the company has 12 of its 600 offices located in L.A. County. Its main office in L.A. is in Sun Valley.

Waste Management's main regional clients are the 25 cities in the Greater L.A. area. Its biggest competitor in the area is the City of Los Angeles
