 ENVIRONMENTAL DIAGNOSTICS, INC. ANNOUNCES
IMPROVED RESULTS FOR THE SECOND QUARTER OF 1992
BURLINGTON, N.C., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Environmental Diagnostics, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: EDIT) reported today its operating results for the quarter ended June 30, 1992 which included significantly increased revenues for the quarter.
The Company's revenues for the quarter were $815,633, an increase of 32 percent from the $616,654 reported in the second quarter of 1991. The Company's net loss was $195,297 or a loss of $.05 per share, compared to a net loss of $196,098 or a loss of $.08 per share, in the same quarter of the prior year.
For the six month period ended June 30, 1992, the Company had revenues of $1,549,544, an increase of 9 percent from the revenues of $1,412,356 reported for the same period in 1991. The Company's net loss for the six months ended June 30, 1992 was $458,227, or a loss of $.13 per share, compared to a net loss of $292,690 or $.12 per share for the six months ended June 30, 1991.
James D. Skinner, EDI President and CEO, said, "We are pleased to report substantially increased revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 1992. The Company's EZ-SCREEN on-site drugs of abuse business continues to grow, posting an increase in sales of 24 percent compared to the same quarter in the prior year. However, the market is still experiencing strong competitive pricing pressure which continues to keep selling prices depressed. In order to offset this trend and increase both the market and our market share, the Company recently introduced its second generation VERDICT one-step Drug of Abuse assays at the American Correctional Association Meeting in San Antonio. The Company expects these new state of the art, one-step tests will result in growth of the Company's market share, revenue and profit.
"The Company also reported a significant increase in the amount of revenue from royalties and fees as work has progressed on research projects for both the Farnam Companies and the Department of Defense. In addition, the Company received an up-front, non-refundable royalty from Rhone-Poulenc Diagnostics, Ltd. with whom the Company signed an exclusive distribution agreement for certain of its products."
Skinner continued: "While our revenues were improved, our net loss for the quarter was virtually the same as the year before. This was primarily a result of increased research and development expenses resulting from the research projects for the Farnam Companies and the Department of Defense and work on its one-step technology. In addition, the Company had legal expenses associated with its patent interference proceedings with Murex Corporation and Hybritech, Incorporated. On July 16, 1992, the United States Patent and Trademark Office denied the Preliminary Motions of Murex and granted the Preliminary Motions of the Company. This decision also put Murex under an Order to Show Cause as to why judgment of priority of invention should not be entered against Murex. In its other action the Company and Hybritech filed Preliminary Motions with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on July 29, 1992.
