ENUSA, WESTINGHOUSE, BNFL CREATE EUROPEAN FUEL GROUP TO SUPPLY NUCLEAR FUEL

          ENUSA, WESTINGHOUSE, BNFL CREATE EUROPEAN FUEL GROUP
                        TO SUPPLY NUCLEAR FUEL
    PITTSBURGH, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Empresa Nacional del Uranio (ENUSA), Westinghouse Electric Corporation (NYSE: WX) and British Nuclear Fuels, Plc (BNFL), today announced the creation of the European Fuel Group to market, design and manufacture pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear fuel for the European market.
    Under the agreement, the three companies will pool their resources to supply PWR fuel and related services to customers in several European countries.  In addition, the three-party alliance will offer mixed oxide and reprocessed uranium fuel fabrication.
    "This long-term consortium has the size, capabilities and experience needed to compete successfully in the European markets," said Alfredo Llorente, chairman of ENUSA.  "The electric utilities will benefit from the wide range of products and services we can offer."

    Each company will be responsible for specific functions in fulfilling contracts.  Collectively, the group will perform research and development, fuel management, core operations analysis, safety analysis and manufacturing services. Engineering services will focus on margin improvement, load follow analysis, fuel performance evaluation, fuel cycle cost projections and plant operations flexibility reviews. Production capabilities will include design, testing, and manufacturing at different sites, and the supply of a range of products that include natural and enriched uranium fuel, mixed oxide fuel and processed uranium assemblies.
    ENUSA, headquartered in Madrid, Spain, conducts industrial and financial activities in uranium mining, enrichment, and fuel design and fabrication.  ENUSA is part of the INI Group, the main industrial holding group in Spain.
    BNFL provides a range of nuclear fuel activities, including uranium processing, fuel fabrication, mixed oxide fuel, and fuel reprocessing. The company's headquarters is near Warrington, England.
    Westinghouse, headquartered in Pittsburgh, is a world leader in nuclear power technology and nuclear fuel design and fabrication.
