Brew fest benefits

The third annual Sasquatch Beer Fest begins Friday with a special dinner that pairs beers from local brew pubs with "haute cuisine haute cuisine

." It continues Saturday with an open-air festival featuring the beers from more than a dozen breweries in the Pacific Northwest.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, a nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization

An association that is given tax-free status. Donations to a non-profit organization are often tax deductible as well.

Notes:
Examples of non-profit organizations are charities, hospitals and schools.
 that provides professional brewing scholarships to apprentices with limited means.

Falconer, who worked as head brewer at the former Wild Duck Brewery in Eugene, died in 2002.

Friday's four-course dinner costs $40 per person and takes place at Mallard mallard: see duck.

Admission to the Saturday event, which runs from noon to midnight on the downtown Eugene Mall at Broadway Plaza Broadway Plaza is the name of various places:
  • Broadway Plaza (Walnut Creek), a shopping mall in Walnut Creek, California
  • Broadway Plaza (Denver), a shopping mall in Denver, Colorado
 - also known as Kesey Square - at Broadway and Willamette streets, is $10 per person. The price includes a commemorative beer glass, two free taste tickets, live music and a silent auction.

Extension Service

offers free classes

Low-cost, easy recipes will be the focus of a series of classes offered this month by the OSU/Lane County Extension Service's nutrition education program. The classes will be offered at no charge to families who qualify for free or reduced-price school lunches, who meet federal income guidelines for assistance or who participate in the food stamp program The US Food Stamp Program is a federal assistance program that provides food to low income people living in the United States. Benefits are distributed by the individual states, but the program is administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. , the Oregon Health Plan The Oregon Health Plan is the Oregon state healthcare program for low income residents of Oregon. Eligibility
Basic eligibility requires that the applicant be a resident of Oregon, as a citizen or otherwise.

Recipes will be made during the class, and nutritional information will be provided.

The classes will take place at the Extension auditorium from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on June 8, 15, 22 and 29. Those who wish to attend must preregister pre·reg·is·ter

Butterflies on display

at Elkton festival

The butterly gardens and pavilion and native Oregon plant park at the Elkton Community Education Center will be open for a special festival on June 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Although the festival will be free, there will be a $3 admission fee for those who wish to take an additional tour. The tours include the Bill Town garden near Wells Creek at 1 p.m. and Gillian Sykes' "Wine and Roses" garden at 4 p.m. A bus will be provided for the Bill Town Tour.

Wine tasting

Ambrosia ambrosia (ămbrō`zhə), in Greek mythology, food and drink with which the Olympian gods preserved their immortality.
