Extension Service opens food preservation food preservation, methods of preparing food so that it can be stored for future use. Because most foods remain edible for only a brief period of time, people since the earliest ages have experimented with methods for successful food preservation.  hot line

The OSU/Lane County Extension Service has opened its food preservation and safety hot line at 682-4246.

The hot line staff members, who are master food preserver volunteers, can answer questions about safe canning methods for fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and poultry. They also can provide information on freezing; food drying including making fruit leathers; pickling; jams and jellies; emergency food and water storage; different varieties of produce; and other food safety concerns.

The hot line is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The Wine Place - Highway 101 and West Fourth Street, Yachats. Riesling, chardonnay, pinot noir and Marechal Foch Marechal Foch (pronounced "mar-esh-shall-fosh"), is an inter-specific red wine grape variety.
