Oregon Route 238 (Jacksonville Highway) is a main route through the valley. wine takes top Newport prize NEWPORT - The 2000 Troon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Cab·er·net Sauvignon n. 1. A variety of black grape used to make red wine, notably in Bordeaux and the Napa Valley. 2. A dry red wine made from this grape. [French. , from a winery in the Applegate Valley, just south of Grants Pass, was judged best of show in the Newport Seafood & Wine Festival's Commercial Wine Competition. A total of 142 wines were entered. Twenty gold medals were awarded. LaVelle Vineyards of Elmira received gold medals for its 2002 pinot gris and a dessert wine (Riesling, Autumn Nectar, Susan's Vineyard). King Estate Winery, near Lorane, received a gold medal for its 1999 pinot noir reserve wine. One Umpqua Valley vintner, Flying Dutchman Winery, received gold for its 2002 syrah. Broadway. The $10 charge for the event includes appetizers as well as a taste of all nine wines. Cooking Classes MARCH 11 European cooking - Lessons in "International Cuisine" will be offered from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C St., Springfield.
