Payrolls for Hollywood-area entertainment companies increased to $279 million; the number of jobs rose to 17,080.

The gains, disclosed in a report by the Valley Economic Development Center, reflected strong salary growth across the board for movie production, post-production, distribution and radio and television broadcasting.

For example, the number of jobs in motion picture and video production fell to 6,410 from 8,039 but the payroll for that sector soared nearly 50 percent to $142 million. Services allied to movie production saw employment grow 29 percent to 3,041 jobs while payroll rose 38 percent to $45.1 million.
