ENTERTAINMENT CHAPIN SONGS SET FOR MUSICAL REVUE.


ACTON - The Acton/Agua Dulce Arts Council An arts council is a government or private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts mainly by funding local artists, awarding prizes, and organizing events at home and abroad.  and the Foothill Performing Arts Council will host the Verdugo Hills Theatre Company production of ``Lies & Legends: The Musical Stories of Harry Chapin.''

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. on April 23 and 24 at the Acton Community Club, 3748 W. Nickels Ave.

``Lies & Legends'' is a musical revue highlighting the story songs of the late songwriter Harry Chapin. The music includes ``Taxi,'' ``Cats in the Cradle'' and ``W.O.L.D.,'' performed by a six-member ensemble accompanied by musicians.

The show is produced by Tim Borquez of the Verdugo Hills Theatre Company and is directed by Ray Cavaleri with musical direction by Edward Archer

Proceeds will benefit the Acton/Agua Dulce Arts Council and the Foothill Performing Arts Council's ongoing efforts to bring live performances to the community.

CalArts to present new opera piece

VALENCIA - The School of Music and the School of Theater at California Institute of the Arts California Institute of the Arts
 known as CalArts

U.S. private institution of higher learning in Valencia. Created in 1961 through the merger of two other art institutes, it was the first in the U.S.
 will present a new opera, ``Le Point Vierge,'' assembled from existing and newly composed music.

Presented as part of the CalArts Opera/Theater Performance Project, the performances will take place at 8 p.m. April 23 and 24 in the Walt Disney Modular Theater The Walt Disney Modular Theatre is an indoor performance space located at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. The modular theatre is based on a concept suggested by Antonin Artaud, who asserted that the ideal theatre could be reconfigured for each and  on campus, 24700 McBean Parkway.

``Le Point Vierge'' is a composite opera that explores the threshold where conversion begins in the human heart, producers said. Producers described it as an absurdist rendering of the paradox between cynicism and the battle to maintain personal integrity, exploring the nature of true power through the eyes of the powerless.

Film festival focus to be on families

CANYON COUNTRY - The International Family Film Festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary April 23 through 29 with the theme ``One World - One Family,'' hoping to spread the word that a family is a universal concept with as many differences as there are similarities.

Feature-length films, shorts and animation works will be presented at the Canyon Country Edwards Theater, while a wide variety of hands-on workshops for children will be held at the neighboring Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library.

Adult workshops in screenwriting and filmmaking will be held at the IFFF IFFF International Family Film Festival (formerly Santa Clarita International Film Festival)
IFFF International Flag Football Federation
 headquarters in the Prado Town Center movie theater in Valencia.

Musical evening slated in Valencia

VALENCIA - Congregation Beth Shalom will present ``One Enchanted en·chant

 Evening,'' featuring contemporary and Jewish music, at 7 p.m. April 25 at the Valencia High School auditorium, 27801 N. Dickason Drive.

The performance will feature a five-piece band and the congregation's cantor, Phil Baron, the son of a violinist and the grandson of a Vilna rabbi.

Joining Baron onstage will be cantorial soloists Paul Buch and Lorna Lembeck.

Buch is cantorial soloist at Temple Beth Israel in the Claremont/Pomona area. Lembeck is cantorial soloist at the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue.

Included in the ticket price is dessert, which will be served after the performance. Preferred seating is available and includes a reserved audio CD of the night's performance. Ticket prices are $75 for preferred seating and $40 for general admission.
