ENOVIApm Software from IBM and ENOVIA Corporation Used for New Sony Product Data Management System.CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1998-- Web-Based, 24-Hour Information Sharing See data conferencing. Capability Available for Sony Worldwide Product Development IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) (a) Japan Ltd. announced today that the Sony Corporation in a contract valued at 1.2 billion yen (approx. $10 million) will use ENOVIApm(c) software from IBM and the ENOVIA Corporation to build a new Web-based worldwide PDM (1) (Product Data Management) An information system used to manage the data for a product as it passes from engineering to manufacturing. The data includes plans, geometric models, CAD drawings, images, NC programs as well as all related project data, notes and (product data management) system. The Sony system is called PADICS and will be one of the largest PDM systems in the electronics industry. It is designed to enhance Sony's product development process and will have a worldwide-shared technical support system as its foundation. It will track data for 17 million components, part assemblies, designs and alterations for Sony consumer, broadcast equipment and other products. The data will be accessible 24-hours a day via Web browsers The following is a list of web browsers. Historical Historically important browsers In order of release:
ENOVIApm, formerly known as IBM's ProductManager, is a PDM software suite. It is now part of the Product Development Management II (PDM II) software developed by ENOVIA Corp. and marketed and sold worldwide by IBM. PDM II is a new category of software that provides companies with a multi-CAD collaborative and innovative environment to do virtual product and process modeling, simulation and management across the extended enterprise. Sony realized it needed a more capable PDM system after dispersing its product design groups to overseas locations. The need to access the latest information on designs, parts and components in real time has increased dramatically. IBM Japan was awarded the contract to help create the new PDM system for Sony based on its expertise in systems integration, e- business and other networking skills. IBM hardware being used includes the RS/6000(a) SP. The initial implementation this fall calls for several hundred Sony design and support staff to enter and access product data using ENOVIApm via Web browsers. With full implementation by the end of next year, as many as 7,000 designers, engineers and other Sony employees will be using PADICS in Japan, other Asian countries Noun 1. Product Development Management (PDM II) is defined by leading consultants as encompassing two domains - Virtual Product Development Management (VPDM VPDM Vice President of Management Development ), and Product Data Management (PDM). Responding to the new PDM II market opportunity, IBM and Dassault Systemes Dassault Systemes (Dassault Systèmes S.A.) (Pronounced - Dasoh) (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext: 13065) is a leading company specializing in 3D and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software. announced in February 1998 a new strategic alliance where Dassault Systemes launched a new wholly owned company, ENOVIA(b) Corp, located in Charlotte, NC to develop integrated PDM II solutions, respectively named ENOVIApm and ENOVIAvpm. The first solution -- ENOVIAvpm (virtual product model) -- facilitates innovation to create better products by helping define, configure See configuration. (software) configure - A program by Richard Stallman to discover properties of the current platform and to set up make to compile and install gcc. Cygnus configure was a similar system developed by K. and optimize product definition and manufacturing processes. The second solution -- ENOVIApm -- helps manage product data and documents better. IBM created two new worldwide organizations -- one to market and sell these PDM II products; and the other to provide business transformation, consulting and implementation services. Dassault Systemes also acquired IBM's Product Data Management solution (ProductManager), renamed to ENOVIApm. IBM and Dassault Systemes consider that the ENOVIAvpm and ENOVIApm suites can help small, medium and large companies expand their product portfolio and market share.
