ENERGY SAYING TIPS.


Following are some tips from F Pacific Gas and Electric Co. to help small businesses reduce energy use and save money:

Office Equipment

* Turn off PCs, monitors, printers, copiers and lights every night and weekend If you can't turn off the whole computer turn off the monitor and the printer.

* Use laptop computers--they consume 90 percent less energy than standard desktop computers.

* Use ink-jet printers--they consume 90 percent less energy than laser printers.

Lighting

* Close shades or blinds during early morning and late evening to reduce solar insulation heat gain.

* Clean dusty diffusers and lamps every 6-12 months for improved lumen output.

HVAC

* Set thermostats thermostat, automatic device that regulates temperature in an enclosed area by controlling heating or refrigerating systems. It is commonly connected to one of these systems, turning it on or off in order to maintain a predetermined temperature. Its operating principle is based on the fact that one of its components expands or contracts significantly during a temperature change. at 78 degrees for summer cooling.

* Install locking covers on your thermostats to prevent employees from tampering with temperature settings.

* Perform scheduled maintenance on units including cleaning condenser coils, replacing air filters regularly and checking ducts and pipe insulation for damage.

* Install ceiling fans.

* Install blinds or solar screen shades.

* Install reflective window film or awnings on all south-facing windows.
