Explotaciones Eolicas Aldehuelas. S.L., a company in which ENDESA (NYSE:ELE) is majority shareholder through its subsidiary ENDESA Cogeneracion y Renovables (ECYR ECYR Endesa Cogeneracion y Renovables (Spain) ), has started up the Estoncala, Jupiter and Saturno wind farms, located in the north of the province of Soria, in the Sierras of Alba and Montes Claros, near the villages of Santa Cruz de Yanguas Santa Cruz de Yanguas is a municipality located in the province of Soria, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 64 inhabitants. , Villar del Rio, Vizmanos, Las Aldehuelas and Arevalo de la Sierra.

The three wind farms have a combined installed capacity of 47.2 MW and are equipped with 59 GAMESA GAMESA Galletera Mexicana Sociedad Anónima (Spanish)  AE-56 wind turbines, made in Spain and with a unit capacity of 800 kW each.

The investment required for their start up has amounted to some Euro 45 million, of which 90% corresponds to development and preliminary studies associated with the wind farms and the rest to the substation and evacuation facilities.

These farms are expected to generate some 151 GWh per year, equivalent to the energy supply for over 45,000 families, a third of the annual electricity consumption of the province of Soria.

Annual savings in terms of primary energy imports for the domestic economy are calculated at approximately 13,000 tonnes of oil equivalent.

The positive effects derived from the start up of this project include the creation of jobs at the local and regional levels required for the construction and maintenance of the installations, the energy supplied and the fact that this is a home-grown and renewable source of energy.

As regards environmental concerns, regular monitoring of avian mortality has been carried out during construction and this will continue now the installations are up and running, on a fortnightly fort·night·ly

basis for the wind farms and a monthly one for the evacuation line.

This project consolidates Endesa Cogeneracion y Renovables' presence in the province of Soria where it participates in over 190 MW of wind power capacity, and strengthens its commitment to Castilla y Leon, a region where Endesa has pioneered wind power development and where it has been present since the construction of the first wind farm in 1997 (Sierra del Madero).

Endesa owns 50% of Explotaciones Eolicas Aldehuelas, S.L. with the rest of the company's capital being owned by PRODENERGIAS-2, a subsidiary of RWE RWE Rot-Weiss Essen (Germann football club)

, and PRENEAL, a company which operates several wind farms in Castilla-Leon. The Mancomunidad de Tierras Altas de Soria (an organisation representing 150 municipalities in the mountains of Soria) also plans to take a 5% stake.

Construction of this wind power complex is part of Endesa's strategic plan, which envisages bringing on line 2,000 MW of additional capacity from renewable energies over a period of five years.

Construction of this wind energy complex reaffirms ENDESA's commitment to environmental and sustainable development concerns in the markets in which it operates and incorporates new renewable energy New renewable energy is a relatively new term that is not used uniformly. In Spain, ENDESA currently has 63 wind farms in operation with total installed capacity of 999 MW and an additional 164 MW under construction, giving it a national market share of 16.6 %. YTD See Year-to-date.
