ENDER THE LINE FOR TV TERRY; Soap star quits.
EASTENDERS star Gavin Richards, who plays luckless Terry Raymond, is to leave the soap, it emerged last night.
The news came as a fierce clash between soap queens Barbara Windsor and Wendy Richard was resolved.
The two stars at last agreed to share the role of escorting the real Queen around the Albert Square set when she visits Elstree Studios next week.
Richards, 55, is to leave the show next March after five years.
He said: "I had a wonderful time but feel I have to devote my energies to other projects."
Later, an inside source added: "He has not been happy since his on-screen wife Irene - Roberta Taylor - left him for a toy boy. He feels he has not been given enough juicy storylines."
Richards is the third star to leave the hit BBC soap in recent months, following in the footsteps of heart-throbs Martin Kemp and Tamzin Outhwaite.
Bosses failed to win him over after a sexy plot line with tearaway Janine, but will leave the door open for a return.
As for the battle of the soap queens, originally it seemed 64-year-old Babs, would show the Queen around the set. She does share her surname after all.
But Wendy, 54, who has played Pauline Fowler since the show started in February 1985 - was said to have been outraged at the snub.
The Queen and Prince Philip will nip into the Queen Vic, named after her great great grandmother, next Wednesday.
