END OF THE SPREE POLICE BREAK UP 'SOPHISTICATED' RING OF BURGLARS.Byline: Naush Boghossian Staff Writer GLENDALE - Police announced Tuesday that they had cracked a ``sophisticated'' residential burglary ring responsible for a spree of break-ins in Glendale neighborhoods. Three suspects were arrested Monday after an afternoon spree in which nine Glendale homes were hit. A fourth man was arrested Tuesday, police said. ``The arrest of these individuals will obviously bring an end to the residential burglary crime spree that not only we've experienced, but other communities in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. County,'' said Sgt. Tom Lorenz, spokesman for the department. ``Based on the investigation, this group is highly sophisticated in the way they operate and they are an organized ring committing residential burglaries.'' Walter Horne, 25, of Watts, Freddie Smith, 26, of Bellflower bellflower, in botany bellflower or bluebell, name commonly used as a comprehensive term for members of the Campanulaceae, a family of chiefly herbaceous annuals or perennials of wide distribution, characteristically found on dry and Robert Hendrix, 30, of Los Angeles were arrested on suspicion of burglary. They were each being held on $50,000 bail. Police pursued the men in their vehicle in Glendale after neighbors reported suspicious activity. The investigation led to a home in Watts, where police arrested Martin Horne, 24, on Tuesday on suspicion of possession of an explosive device after police found a pipe bomb in his Los Angeles home. The men are suspected of targeting small streets in affluent northeast Glendale neighborhoods, breaking into homes during the day and taking jewelry jewelry, personal adornments worn for ornament or utility, to show rank or wealth, or to follow superstitious custom or fashion. The most universal forms of jewelry are the necklace, bracelet, ring, pin, and earring. , cash, computers, weapons and miscellaneous items such as a fur coat in one case, investigators said. Glendale police also believe there are other burglars in the ring. ``The way they're operating, there have to be more people involved,'' Sgt. Ernie Garcia said. ``The mere fact that in one day they did seven homes we've confirmed so far in such a short period of time, there's a good probability there's other members in this group.'' The men already have been connected to burglaries in San Pedro, Compton and Eagle Rock, and police suspect they are responsible for burglary sprees in other Southland south·land or South·land n. Officials are also looking into tying the men to about 10 burglaries within the past three months that fit their profile in Glendale's Glenoaks Canyon, Chevy Chase Chevy Chase (chĕv`ē), town (1990 pop. 8,559), Montgomery co., W central Md., a residential suburb of Washington, D.C.; founded as a village, inc. 1914.
