EMR Microwave Announces Process For Treatment of Flyash.Business Editors FREDERICTON, New Brunswick--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 9, 2000 (CDNX CDNX See Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX). :EMW EMW Electromagnetic Wave EMW Ericsson Microwave Systems EMW Expeditionary Maneuver Warfare EMW Eisenach Motoren Werke EMW Electromagnetic Warfare EMW Early Morning Wakening (aka terminal insomnia) EMW Engineer Mine Warfare ) EMR (ElectroMagnetic Radiation) The emanation of energy from everything in the universe. Although the EMR from electrical and electronic devices is typically measured for practical, every-day situations, every object, including humans, emanates energy. Microwave Technology Corporation announces that it has developed a process for removing residual organic carbon from thermal plant grade flyash. The resulting carbon depleted flyash is a high-value product with widespread application in the production of cement. Residual carbon in flyash is the result of incomplete combustion within the burner known as Loss of Ignition (LOI LOI Letter of Indemnity (international trade and carriage business) LOI Letter Of Intent LOI Loss On Ignition LOI Letter of Inquiry LOI Lack Of Information LOI Lack of Interest LOI Letter of Invitation LOI List Of Items ); this arises from operating the burner at reduced temperature to control nitrous oxide nitrous oxide or nitrogen (I) oxide, chemical compound, N2O, a colorless gas with a sweetish taste and odor. Its density is 1.977 grams per liter at STP. It is soluble in water, alcohol, ether, and other solvents. (NOX) emission. Flyash is an extremely valuable additive to cement, resulting in greatly improved performance characteristics. These benefits, however, are diminished by the presence of residual carbon with the direct result that the commercial value of flyash in the cement industry increases dramatically with carbon reduction, particularly if carbon content can be reduced below approximately 3%. Annual production of dry flyash from United States coal combustion amounts to 44.9 million tons per year, of which 9.7 million tons per year is used directly in cement/concrete/grout applications (American Coal Ash Association, 1998). EMR's proprietary microwave process combusts the residual organic carbon, producing a calcine cal·cine v. To heat a substance to a high temperature but below the melting or fusing point, causing loss of moisture, reduction, or oxidation and the decomposition of carbonates and other compounds. flyash which is relatively carbon free. In a recent pre-pilot test program, flyash from a utility coal generating plant was treated to reduce the LOI from 14% to less than 1%. The Company is now planning a pilot demonstration of this process in conjunction with an industrial partner and its marketing partner, Bateman Engineering. EMR Microwave Technology Corporation is a process technology company dedicated to providing applications for the resource industries using proprietary microwave systems. The company's head office, analytical labs, and pilot plant are located in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
