This is below average analysts' expectations of $.93 per share for the second quarter of 1995. The company stated that higher medical loss ratios, caused by increases in medical costs and utilization have more than offset the benefits of pricing increases in the second quarter, resulting in moderation of earnings in the quarter. The company's increased medical loss ratios are consistent with industry trends. In addition to pricing actions, management has implemented a series of claims management initiatives and has lowered the company's administrative expense ratio in response to these increases in medical costs and utilization. The company stated that the primary financial benefit of these actions is expected to impact results in the third and subsequent quarters.
