) today announces the line-up for its inaugural EMP Innovators Series, a semi-annual program designed to explore the music and legacy of an artist who significantly changed the course or direction of popular music.

The first innovators week examines the inspiring creativity and musical innovations of Jimi Hendrix Noun 1. Jimi Hendrix - United States guitarist whose innovative style with electric guitars influenced the development of rock music (1942-1970)

 and runs Sunday, Nov. 26 through Saturday, Dec. 2.

"Hendrix dramatically affected rock guitar by exploring sonic distortion and incorporating jazz and blues," said Bob Santelli, EMP's deputy director of public programming. "He almost single-handedly created heavy metal, jazz-fusion and made important contributions to the evolution of funk. This month he would have celebrated his 58th birthday."

It is the home of the Seattle Symphony.  featuring Medeski Martin & Wood, The Gil Evans Gil Evans (13 May 1912 in Toronto Canada – 20 March 1988 in Cuernavaca, Mexico) was a jazz pianist, arranger, composer, and bandleader, active in the United States. He played a seminal role in the development of cool jazz, modal jazz, free jazz and jazz-rock, and collaborated  Orchestra (directed by Miles Evans), Vernon Reid, Chris Whitley and others. The series continues with a variety of activities featuring workshops, exclusive films, presentations and live performances all dedicated to exploring Jimi's musical legacy.

7:30 p.m., Benaroya Hall's Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium A Magic Science: Celebrating Jimi Hendrix

A live performance featuring funk/jazz/rock masters Medeski Martin & Wood and the jazz luminaries of The Gil Evans Orchestra, now conducted by Gil's son Miles Evans. These artists are joined by Vernon Reid and Chris Whitley, two of today's most innovative guitarists. In addition, the evening will feature one of the world's premiere turntablists This is an alphabetical list of turntablists and their most influential recordings.
