EMMYS UN-`FRIENDS'-LY TO NBC SITCOM'S CAST?

Byline: Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith

David Schwimmer David Lawrence Schwimmer (born November 12, 1966) in Astoria, New York) is an Emmy-nominated American actor and director, who gained popularity when playing Dr. Ross Geller on the American sitcom Friends.  red-eyed it back from Hawaiian shooting of ``Six Days, Seven Nights'' Tuesday night to catch up on ``Friends'' work. He's also rushing into rehearsals for his Lookingglass Theatre Co.'s marvelous ``The Arabian Nights Arabian Nights: see Thousand and One Nights.

Arabian Nights

See : Fantasy
,'' which opened without him at Hollywood's Actors' Gang Theater this week. And ... he's preparing for the first annual ``Friends Helping Friends'' charity gala he and his series co-stars are staging Sept. 22 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

One thing he won't be doing is attending Sunday night's Emmy Awards.

``It's been really upsetting how little recognition the show as a whole has received by the industry,'' notes the articulate, sensitive actor. ``It wasn't nominated this year as Best Comedy. Lisa Kudrow Lisa Marie Diane Kudrow (born July 30, 1963) is an Emmy Award- and SAG-winning American actress best known for her role as Phoebe Buffay in the hugely popular sitcom Friends.  was nominated, I was nominated in the past - but Matt (LeBlanc) and Courteney (Cox) and Jennifer (Aniston) and Matthew (Perry) have never received a nomination for the show. And that's strange.''

Schwimmer stresses that all the ``Friends'' co-stars have considered the series their first professional priority - regardless of what other opportunities they've been afforded. And for David, those opportunities seem endless.

He started the film ``Apt Pupil'' as soon as ``Friends'' wrapped for the season in April, went on to co-star in HBO's ``Breast Men'' movie, then started ``Six Days, Seven Nights'' with Harrison Ford and Anne Heche. He was given a five-week leave from ``Six Days'' so he could make the romantic comedy ``Kissing a Fool'' in Chicago for his friend Doug Ellin Doug Ellin (born April 6, 1968 Merrick, New York [1]) is a creator of the HBO television series, Entourage, based on the life of a famous actor in Hollywood, Vincent Chase, his half brother and his two best friends live the Hollywood dream.  - and while he was in Chicago, he started preparations for ``The Arabian Nights'' play he's co-producing.

He's still got a few weeks of ``Six Days'' work to be done on a Hollywood soundstage, and will be bicycling between production on the feature - and shooting of ``Friends.''

Something completely different

You think Marisa Tomei and, usually, you think urban. Well, such is certainly not the case for the ``My Cousin Vinny'' Oscar winner's next assignment. She heads to Djakarta, Indonesia, at month's end to portray renowned primatologist Birute Galdikas, the woman whose work with orangutans has been likened to that of Dian Fossey's with gorillas and Jane Goodall's with chimpanzees. The project is an ABC ABC

Building that rapport

Arthel Neville reports that she and Fred Roggin, her co-host on the upcoming syndicated ``Arthel & Fred Show,'' only knew each other from TV when they were first brought together for the daytime talker. But in the time it's taken to get the show on the air, they've gotten to know each other very well. ``It's been a year and we've been doing a lot of traveling together, just the two of us.'' They've found ``neither one likes to waste time, but we both like to laugh and act silly and talk to people.'' But they have different tastes in music. ``Fred is this uncool Jewish man, and I am the spicy, Creole babe from New Orleans. He has no rhythm. ... I'm working on that.'' The daughter of Art Neville, keyboardist for the Grammy-winning Neville Brothers, adds that Roggin will defer to her suggestions when it comes to musical guests on the new show. ``As he says, `You know music. I'll leave that up to you.' ''
