EMCOR tackling the challenges of aging energy infrastructure.

EMCOR Energy Services, a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., announced that it has begun work on several innovative new energy-related projects and long term assignments for clients in both the private and public sector.

These projects feature the latest technological developments in renewable fuel sources, alternative energy generation, and the assessment and management of efficiency-based programs and technologies, highlighting the company's expertise in providing broad-based energy-related services, management and solutions.

Most significant of the recent contract awards announced are two waste-to-energy projects that will upgrade landfill gas (LFG)--a byproduct of the decay process of organic matter in solid waste landfills--to meet the high quality standards of interstate pipelines serving the natural gas market.

Utilizing advanced cleaning and compression technologies and EMCOR's expertise in designing, building and maintaining the systems that convert LFG to usable gas, these projects will provide both environmental and economic benefits using a fuel that significantly reduces greenhouse gases while producing economic alternatives to conventional supply

"There is no doubt that the escalating demand being placed on an already outdated and over-stressed power grid is increasingly causing grave concern throughout organizations where strategic imperatives, such as life safety and business continuity, are dependent upon uninterrupted power," said Frank T. "With rising concern about energy sources, alternatives such as LFG are being utilized because they are reliable, economically competitive and proven energy resources.

"We believe that LFG, in particular, represents a tremendous opportunity for the future where, according to the Environmental Protection Agency's Landfill Methane Outreach Program, there are still more than 600 landfills that could be developed, offering a potential gas flow capacity of over 280 billion cubic feet per year."

EMCOR's new energy projects include designing and constructing gas cleaning and compression facilities, pipelines and blending and compression stations for the Greentree Landfill Gas Company, Kersey, PA and Imperial Landfill Gas Company, Imperial, PA, and performing EPC services for a new Johnson & Johnson Combined Heat & Power plant (CHP) in New Jersey;

EMCOR has also been selected by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to evaluate and manage a wide range of demand-side and conservation projects for the city, including a project to evaluate, develop and manage renewable energy generation projects.
