EMC Helps Sears Link Business Decisions to Customer Buying Trends; EMC Infrastructure Expected to Boost Storage Utilization, Decrease Total Cost of Ownership.

Sears is working with EMC Global Services to implement an EMC storage area network (SAN) designed to provide Sears with strategic customer information while reducing overall management costs through increased storage utilization. The EMC infrastructure is based on EMC Symmetrix The Symmetrix is EMC's flagship enterprise storage array. There have been seven generations of Symmetrix hardware, with the first appearing in 1994 and the latest introduced in 2006.  Enterprise Storage systems and EMC Connectrix fibre-channel switches that will consolidate data residing on Sun Solaris/UNIX and Compaq servers running Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. . EMC ControlCenter, Symmetrix Optimizer and ESN (Electronic Serial Number) A unique identification number built into a cellphone for security purposes.  Manager have been implemented to more efficiently manage storage resources across its storage network. The retailer also is utilizing additional EMC Data Manager (EDM (Engineering Data Management) An information system that maintains the details of all engineering data while the product is in the design and concept phase.
