EMC Extends Storage Solutions Lead With New E-Infostructure Developers Program.

New Alliance Program Makes Wide Range of

Information Sharing, Management and Protection APIs Available

EMC Corporation today introduced the E-Infostructure Developers Program, a major expansion of its work to enable independent software vendors (ISVs) to develop applications that are tightly integrated with EMC's industry-leading Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems and software. As part of the program, EMC is now making a wide range of its APIs (application programming interfaces) available to development partners.

By providing wide-scale access to its APIs, which are software paths into a Symmetrix system and its software, EMC will enable customers to select from, and rapidly integrate, a large variety of information management, sharing and protection tools. These solutions, developed and sold by third-party companies, including software industry leaders like Oracle Corp. and BMC Software, will allow customers to more easily manage and implement mission-critical information infrastructures. By sharing its APIs with third-party application vendors, EMC helps customers take full advantage of the leading performance, availability and management features of EMC Enterprise Storage solutions, while eliminating costly, time-consuming application creation or customization.

EMC has offered access to select APIs since 1996. As a result, there are currently 16 independent software products that customers can deploy with their industry-leading Symmetrix systems and software, with more under development. The E-Infostructure Developers Program expands this initiative by making a wider range of APIs available and includes specialized technical training, API software development kits, and access to EMC's renowned engineering facilities for product development and integration. The API-based software products and the interoperability with every major operating system and server platform make Symmetrix Enterprise Storage the most flexible, open storage architecture in the world.
