EMC Technology Supports Development of New Oracle(R) Database;

EMC Serves as Beta Test Site to Ensure Scalability and

Interoperability of Oracle9i

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage, today joined with Oracle Corporation in the launch of its new flagship database and application server, Oracle9i. EMC technology was used as the information storage infrastructure during the development and testing of Oracle9i. Additionally, EMC is ensuring interoperability and integration of Oracle9i with EMC systems and software for the more than 9,000 global installations running a combination of Oracle and EMC technology. With its patent-pending Oracle9i Real Application Clusters running on EMC information storage solutions, customers can start with a single server and add more capacity as they grow, providing more scalability with less hardware.

EMC, as a Beta test partner for Oracle9i, tested features and functions and concurrently worked to ensure interoperability with EMC systems and software. Additional integration work to further integrate new Oracle9i features with EMC software is underway in the areas of management and the deployment of clusters. The two companies will showcase their solutions at the first-ever European Oracle OpenWorld next week (June 18 -21) in Berlin, where EMC President and CEO Joe Tucci will deliver a keynote.

EMC has worked closely with Oracle as well as Cisco through the ECOstructure (EMC, Cisco, Oracle Infrastructure) initiative to integrate the Oracle9i Application Server into the initiative's latest technology blueprint Accelerated. In 1999, Oracle created a joint development lab with EMC that includes dedicated technical staff, resources and equipment for the integration and development of Oracle technology with EMC solutions.
