Unifying Platform for the Long-term Storage of Fixed Content

EMC Corporation today announced that more than 70 new customers purchased a total of more than one petabyte of EMC Centera content addressed storage (CAS) systems in the fourth quarter of 2002. Introduced in April 2002, EMC Centera CAS is the first cross-application, cross-industry unifying storage platform for fixed content. Centera revenue for the fourth quarter of 2002 increased 258% compared with the third quarter of 2002.

Amidst heightened scrutiny surrounding how organizations retain and retrieve critical records such as electronic documents, e-mail and medical records, organizations cited EMC Centera's ability to provide long-term content integrity, and its tight integration with existing infrastructure applications as main drivers for purchasing the solution in the fourth quarter.

EMC Centera's self-healing and authentication features have prompted industry-wide recognition of the CAS solution as the first disk-based WORM (write once, read many) storage medium, and its tight integration with more than 50 shipping applications ensures that customers do not have to perform an infrastructure overhaul to realize Centera's value. Centera's open-door policy for all application providers interested in integrating to the solution has resulted in broad industry support, with more than 100 members of its partner program.

Commerzbank, one of the world's largest banks, has purchased EMC Centera to serve as the long-term repository for its email archives. Commerzbank chose Centera to comply with existing SEC regulatory requirements for email retention and retrieval.
