EMC AND TANDEM TEAM TO PROVIDE RAID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY FOR BUSINESS-CRITICAL UNIX APPLICATIONS.

HOPKINTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 1995 -- EMC Corporation, the leader in information storage and retrieval technology, and Tandem Computers, Inc. of Cupertino, Calif., the leader in high-reliability computing, today announced they have signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement for Tandem to market EMC's ModARRAY series of open storage systems. This agreement allows Tandem to offer a fully redundant, low-cost RAID storage subsystem for its Integrity NR series of scalable, high availability UNIX servers.

The new Tandem Integrity NR RAID Storage Subsystem provides the most comprehensive set of availability features of any midrange RAID offering for business-critical OLTP and decision support applications, with costs per megabyte ranging from just $1.50 to $2.50 for fully redundant, protected storage. It incorporates such high-availability features as full component redundancy, online RAID controller failure protection, and online upgrades of RAID software, while providing user-selectable RAID levels 0,1, 3 and 5.

For rapidly expanding applications such as decision support, Integrity NR servers (scaling to as many as 36 processors) are complemented by the excellent scalability of the new NR RAID Storage Subsystem. Storage capacities range from 4GB to 260GB, in compact arrays of 3.5-inch disks.
