EMBLEM CLUB CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY GALA FEATURES AWARDS, STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS.

CANYON COUNTRY - The Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Members dressed in bright colors and tie-dye to go along with the theme ``Good Ole Peace Time,'' and the Desert Divas vocalists, a group that is part of the Sweet Adelines, entertained guests with tunes from the 1960s and 1970s.

Each year the club presents scholarships to local students to enable them to further their academic goals. President Jo Alpern introduced this year's recipients, which included Danielle Young, who will attend Arizona State University Arizona State University, at Tempe; coeducational; opened 1886 as a normal school, became 1925 Tempe State Teachers College, renamed 1945 Arizona State College at Tempe. Its present name was adopted in 1958. ; Melissa Drake, San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. The Master's College was founded as Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary on May 25, 1927 to meet the need for a fundamental Baptist school on the West Coast.

The Emblem Woman of the Year Award was presented to Roseann Dalton for her many hours of service and for her duties as publication editor of the club's newsletter, Chatter Time.

Club member Stacy McKenna presented honorable mention awards to Jim Tubbs for collecting, sorting and mailing more than 243,000 discount coupons to members of the armed forces stationed overseas, and to Phyllis Knight for her many activities and her organization of the club's weekly bingo games.

Vice President Diane Tubbs introduced the honored guests including Annitta Macheda, past supreme president and past president of the Barstow Emblem Club No. 311; Robert Medellin, state vice president of the metropolitan district and past exalted ruler of San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

 Elks Club No. 1539, who attended with his wife, Mercy; Floyd ``Skip'' Henke, past district deputy, grand exalted ruler and past exalted ruler of Santa Clarita Elks Club No. 2379, who attended with his wife, Karen; and Don Dewhurst, exalted ruler of the Santa Clarita Elks, who attended with his wife, Gail.
