EMB 145 SA to Brazil. (Digest).
Embraer has delivered another of its EMB 145 SA aircraft to the
Brazilian Air Force, the fourth of a total of eight going to the Sivam
programme (Aerial Surveillance System). Five EMB 145 SA and three-145 RS
(Remote Sensing) aircraft are slotted to fill the quota. Dubbed the R
99-A by the Brazilians, the EMB 145 Sa is an Airborne Early Warning and
Control aircraft equipped with an Ericsson Erieye radar mounted over its
fuselage for surveillance and monitoring of air and ground traffic, with
special systems that intercept and analyse radar and communication
signals. In addition to their surveillance and control functions, the
aircraft are posted to monitor and control smuggling and drug
trafficking activities in the 5.2 sq/km of the Amazon region.
