Jack Neumeier, who coached John Elway John Albert Elway, Jr. (born June 28, 1960) played American football quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Denver Broncos from 1983 through 1998. Elway holds many college and professional records and was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and is the only  at Granada Hills High and led the Highlanders to their first L.A. City Section football championship in 1970, died Wednesday at his home in Camarillo. He was 85.

While Neumeier, diagnosed with a rare form of cancer three years ago, had been in failing health recently, he managed to travel to Canton, Ohio Canton is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Stark CountyGR6. The municipality is located in northeastern Ohio and is situated on the Nimishillen Creek, approximately 24 miles (38 km) south of Akron[4]  last month as a guest of Elway for his Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

At a banquet the night before the induction, Neumeier was seated at a table with some of Elway's former coaches - Dan Reeves

Frail, but dressed in a new suit, Neumeier called the evening a thrill.

In his induction speech, Elway made a point of thanking Neumeier for attending, but those close to him said the April invitation to the event kept Neumeier alive.

``He was beat when he got back, but he was thrilled,'' said his son-in-law, Steve Cohen.

Neumeier had been undergoing daily radiation treatments for the disease, Merkel cell carcinoma Merkel cell carcinoma Cutaneous neuroendocrine carcinoma A highly malignant skin tumor, usually head & neck, most common in the elderly Prognosis Poor, 3-yr survival 68% ♀, 36% ♂ Treatment Wide excision, prophylactic LN dissection, RT, chemotherapy . As recently as last Friday, Neumeier was still able to drive, but he took several falls over the weekend, was admitted to the hospital and then sent home Monday under hospice care.

Neumeier, a teammate of another Hall of Fame quarterback, Bob Waterfield, at Van Nuys High, made a name for himself with a wide-open passing game in which three and four receivers were used.

In 1970, Granada Hills won the 4-A title and quarterback Dana Potter set section passing records.
