ELECTRONIC CHIRPS KEEP BIRDS AWAY.

Byline: Patricia Farrell Aidem Daily News Staff Writer

Barely heard above the rumble of bulldozers leveling a Valencia field is a constant chirping chirp
n.
A short, high-pitched sound, such as that made by a small bird or an insect.

intr.v. chirped, chirp·ing, chirps
To make a short, high-pitched sound.
 - a sound that comes from speakers, not from the endangered birds it's designed to protect.

As a condition of The Newhall Land and Farming Company's grading plans for its Bridgeport project, the developer was required to discourage the endangered least Bell's vireo vireo, small, migratory songbird of the New World. Some species nest in the United States, but the majority are tropical. Vireos (also called greenlets) range from 4 to 6 1/2 in. (10.2–16.  and other songbirds from nesting near the construction area.

``We didn't want the construction activity to disturb these nests,'' Newhall Land spokeswoman Marlee Lauffer said Monday.

So a system was installed that delivers a constant, but unsteady stream of high-pitched chirping, enough to send even the most maternal bird off to another locale (programming) locale - A geopolitical place or area, especially in the context of configuring an operating system or application program with its character sets, date and time formats, currency formats etc.

Locales are significant for internationalisation and localisation.
. Speakers sit in the riverbeds - the birds' natural habitat - that border the construction site.

``It's a device that keeps birds off the property for their own safety,'' Lauffer said.

The state Department of Fish and Game ordered the speaker system to ensure nests of endangered birds remained untouched while construction begins along San Francisquito Creek The San Francisquito Creek is a creek that flows into San Francisco Bay in California, United States of America. Its headwaters are in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Menlo Park, around 667m (2000 feet) above the Bay.  and the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:
  • Santa Clara River (California), a river in Southern California, United States.
  • Santa Clara River (Utah), a river in Utah, United States
  • Carmen River, a river in Mexico that is sometimes called the Santa Clara River
.

Newhall Land is building an artificial lake surrounded by about 1,000 homes and a commercial center between the two normally dry waterways.
