ELECTROMEDICS REPORTS SECOND QUARTER, 1993 EARNINGS

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Electromedics Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: ELMD) reported that quarterly revenues for the three months ended June 30, 1993 were $9.4 million compared to $9.8 million for the three months of 1992. Net income was $274,000 or 2 cents per share for the three months ended June 30, 1993 compared to $558,000 or 4 cents per share for second quarter of 1992.
"We continue to be optimistic about international sales which posted an 88 percent growth over the comparable quarter in 1992," said F. James Lynch, president and chief executive officer. "Although start-up costs for our offices in France and Germany have lowered short-term profitability, we believe that the European medical market has a strong appetite for Electromedics' products since utilization of Autotransfusion is approximately one-half of the penetration in the U.S."
Lynch stated that, "While Domestic sales were sluggish in the second quarter, we are beginning to see signs that orders from the medical community are improving. Hospitals that have delayed equipment purchasing decisions as a result of the changing political climate regarding health care reform are beginning to purchase Autotransfusion machines." Sales of equipment typically represent 10 percent of total sales.
Electromedics designs, manufactures and markets medical equipment and associated disposable devices, focusing on blood therapy and surgical care. Headquartered in Englewood, Electromedics employs more than 300 men and women. Its products are sold to more than 1,000 hospitals and medical centers throughout the United States and in 30 countries with new sales and service offices located in Frankfurt, Germany and in Paris.
