ELECTROCOM RECEIVES POSTAL CONTRACT FOR DBCS STACKER UPGRADE MODULES

DALLAS, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- ElectroCom Automation Inc. (NYSE: ECA) today announced it has received funding authorization of $30 million for a contract modification from the U.S. Postal Service to provide stacker upgrade modules at a price not to exceed $71.5 million. Final price negotiations are scheduled to be completed in 45 days.
The modification is to ElectroCom's existing Delivery Bar Code Sorter contract, under which it is currently providing 714 DBCS Phase I systems to the Postal Service. The stacker upgrade includes software changes which will enable the systems to sort to 11 digits and will increase the stacker bins from approximately 100 to 190 bins. These changes will permit sorting mail in the sequence that letter carriers deliver it. The systems are scheduled to be delivered from May 1993 to February 1994.
ElectroCom Automation Inc., manufactures high-speed automated document processing systems for use primarily by the United States Postal Service and other government and commercial customers. The company also manufactures mobile data and voice communications systems and products for public safety and transit authorities, provides funded research and development, and recently began to produce materials handling systems and equipment for the commercial warehouse and distribution markets.
