ELECTION FILINGS ARE LAGGING SOME CANDIDATES' FORMS MISSING AS DEADLINE NEARS.

LANCASTER - Midway through the filing period and with two weeks left until the deadline, some incumbents have not filed to run for re-election in 10 local school board races.

If any of the incumbents do not file papers to run in the Nov. 8 election, then the deadline will be extended five days to Aug. 17.

In the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts. , the seats of trustees Max Duran, Steve Harbeson and Fred Heslep are up for election.

Five people have pulled papers to run for the three seats, but only two have filed: Acton attorney Larry Layton, who in the past has run unsuccessfully for judge, and retired software engineer Ron Bird.

In the Antelope Valley Union High School District The Antelope Valley Union High School District (A.V.U.H.S.D.) is located in the Antelope Valley area of California, in northern Los Angeles County.

The district includes eight public high schools, one trade school, and two continuation high schools in the cities of Palmdale
, the terms of trustee Al Beattie, Jim Lott and Calvin Robinson are expiring. Beattie and Lott have filed papers to run for office again.

Also already filed are Los Angeles County Raceway Los Angeles County Raceway (or "LACR") was a motorsport facility in Southern California. LACR's main feature was its 1/4 mile dragstrip, which was first opened in 1964. LACR held its final event on July 29th, 2007.  owner Bernie Longjohn, high school coordinator James Shanbrom, and high school teacher Ira Simonds.

Both Longjohn and Shanbrom ran unsuccessfully for the high school board in 2003.

Taking out papers to run for the high school board but not filed yet are D. Elena Kolbengtson and Willie Thomas Jr., former Palmdale School District The Palmdale School District is a school district that serves a major part of the city of Palmdale, California (USA).

The Palmdale School District was first formed in 1888. Approximately 28,000 students are enrolled in the Palmdale School District.

The seats of trustees Charles Cooke, David Eubanks, and Martha Johnson are up for grabs in the Eastside Union School District. Eubanks was appointed in June to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of former trustee Ann Harris, who moved out of the district.

Cooke has filed to run again. Eubanks, Johnson and challenger Joanna Gaudi have all pulled papers but not filed them.

In the Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes Union School District, the seats of board members Brian Christian, Thomas Sawhill and Lola Skelton are up for election.

Sawhill has filed papers to run for re-election along with challenger Zach Mercier, an educator. Skelton has pulled papers but not filed them yet.

In the Keppel Union School District, the seats up for election include Michael Dutton, Valorie Gorny and Jeff Sauer. All three have pulled their papers, and only Gorny has filed them.

The seats of trustees Keith Giles, Greg Tepe and Richard White Richard White is the name of:

. Giles has filed papers to run for office again.

Diane Grooms, United Way regional vice president, has pulled papers but has not filed them.

In the Palmdale School District, the seats of trustees Shawny Barcelona, Sandy Corrales Corrales can refer to: People
  • Meldy Corrales, Filipina actress
  • Pat Corrales, American baseball player
  • Pilita Corrales, Filipina singer
  • Ramiro Corrales, American soccer player
  • Enrique Corrales, Spanish soccer player
 and Sheldon Epstein are up for election. So far Barcelona and Corrales were issued but have not filed nomination papers.

In the Westside Union School District, the seats of trustees James Brink James Brink (born June 8, 1925) is a former American tennis player.

While at the University of Washington, Brink advanced to the NCAA semifinals in singles in 1948, and then teamed with Fred Fisher to win the NCAA doubles championship in 1949.
, Christine LeBeau and Marty Meeden are up for election.

Brink was planning to resign at the end of July because he has retired from his Lancaster teaching job and will be going to China to teach English.

The Westside board has not made a decision on whether to fill Brink's seat by appointment or wait until the November election.

LeBeau and four other people have pulled papers but none has filed. The others are J.P. ``Paul'' Cramer, Steven DeMarzio, Rebecca Fox and Linda Kaye Jones.

In the Wilsona School District, seats held by Christina Behringer, Lynnette Ledet, and Emma Montesdeoca are up for election for full four-year terms.

Ledet, former Wilsona trustee Patty Greene, Marlene Olivarez and Linda Poirier have been issued nomination papers. Of those, Greene, who was an appointed incumbent who lost her seat in 2003, has filed papers to run.

In the Southern Kern Unified School District, the seats of board members Mario Gutierrez, Ralph Nelson and Robert Vincelette Jr. are up for grabs. Nelson and Vincelette have filed to run again.
