ELECTION DEADLINE EXTENDED 2 E. KERN INCUMBENTS NOT SEEKING RE-ELECTION.

Election filing deadlines will be extended in two east Kern County school board races after incumbents decided not to seek re-election.

The filing deadlines have been extended to 5 p.m. Wednesday for three four-year seats on the board of the Mojave Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). Four people have filed to run for the three four-year seats on the Mojave board. They are incumbents Jim Hooper and Shawn Sprague and challengers George Hodgkinson, a research technician, and Glen Torrey, hotels chief engineer.

For a two-year seat on the Mojave board held by appointed incumbent Edward Sigh, only Sigh filed to run so there will be no election, officials said.

In the Muroc Joint Unified School District, three people have filed to run for Hall's seat. They are secretary Monica Hall, training development manager Jason Higgins, and adjunct professor Michelle Tucker.

Incumbent David Ah Sing was the only candidate to file for Muroc's Edwards seat, so there will be no election.

For Muroc's two Boron boron (bōr`ŏn) [New Gr. from borax], chemical element; symbol B; at. no. 5; at. wt. 10.81; m.p. about 2,300°C;; sublimation point about 2,550°C;; sp. gr. 2.3 at 25°C;; valence +3.  seats, incumbent Diane Boroff will keep her seat as she was the only one to file, and no one filed to run for the second seat, which has been vacant since June when former trustee Jeremy Job resigned.

The board will have to appoint someone to fill Job's position, officials said.

In the Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency, four seats are up but only one will be contested.

For Divisions 1, 2 and 5, the respective incumbents Carl Hunter, Keith Dyas and Andy Rutledge were the only ones to file papers.

In Division 3, incumbent Frank Donato will face challenger David Meraz, general manager for the Quartz Hill Water District.
