ELAN NOT IMPACTED BY EUROPEAN CURRENCY MOVES
ATHLONE, Ireland, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to numerous

inquiries from investors regarding the potential impact of European currency fluctuations on its operations, Elan said speculation with respect to that concern is unfounded because:
 (1) Some 60 percent of the company's revenue is in U.S. dollars under dollar contracts that it protect against currency swings. Other dollar revenue arising in the United States is generated from supply of product from its U.S. manufacturing facilities; and
 (2) The balance of the company's revenue is derived from numerous international markets. In common with other exporting companies, strong currencies in its export markets are, in the long term, beneficial to the company.
Elan is currently in registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission on a zero coupon offering (LYONS) denominated in U.S. dollars and this offering is not affected by these currency fluctuations.
