EL PASO REFINING ISSUES STATEMENT ON COURT ORDER

EL PASO, Texas, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- El Paso Refining, Inc., the General Partner of El Paso Refinery, L.P. (NYSE: ELP), announced today that the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas, Austin Division, in the proceeding filed by El Paso Refinery, L.P. (the "Partnership") seeking relief under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code ("Chapter 11"), yesterday ordered that the hearing to consider the Motion to Convert to a Chapter 7 Proceeding (the "Motion to Convert") filed by certain of the Partnership's secured creditors be continued indefinitely.
The Bankruptcy Court further ruled that the hearing on the Motion to convert is subject to being reset for consideration by the Bankruptcy Court at a later date upon request of such creditors. The Bankruptcy Court also ruled yesterday that the Partnership, operating as a debtor in possession under Chapter 11, could continue to use the cash collateral of its working capital creditors subject to further consideration by the Bankruptcy Court.
Pursuant to an order dated Nov. 20, 1992, the Bankruptcy Court had continued the hearing on the Motion to Convert and appointed an examiner, Richard Smith, to review various aspects of the Partnership and its operations. The examiner filed his report with the Bankruptcy Court on Feb. 8, 1993, and the hearing for the Bankruptcy Court to consider the Motion to Convert was scheduled for yesterday.
El Paso Refinery, L.P. owns a high conversion petroleum refinery and terminal facility in El Paso, Texas. The Partnership filed a petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code on Oct. 23, 1992.
