EIMA offers a diversity of machines: visitors from more than 100 countries look to this exhibition for innovative equipment. In November 2003, the 34th International Agricultural and Gardening Machinery Manufacturers Exhibition (EIMA EIMA EIFS Industry Members Association (Morrow, Georgia) ) in Bologna, Italy, drew almost 120,000 visitors from more than 100 countries during its four-day run. The 1,750 exhibits featured a broad range of equipment for farming, food processing Food processing is the set of methods and techniques used to transform raw ingredients into food for consumption by humans or animals. The food processing industry utilises these processes. , animal husbandry animal husbandry, aspect of agriculture concerned with the care and breeding of domestic animals such as cattle, goats, sheep, hogs, and horses. Domestication of wild animal species was a crucial achievement in the prehistoric transition of human civilization from , gardening and the management of green spaces. Special locations in the permanent temperature-controlled buildings are designated for equipment in the following areas: * Endothermic endothermic /en·do·ther·mic/ (-ther´mik) characterized by or accompanied by the absorption of heat. en·do·ther·mic or en·do·ther·mal adj. 1. and electric engines * Land-reclamation and forestry equipment * Tractors, walking-tractors, motor mowers, motor hoes and multipurpose mul·ti·pur·pose adj. Designed or used for several purposes: a multipurpose room; multipurpose software. multipurpose Adjective farm vehicles * Tilling and seeding machinery and fertilizer spreaders * Plant and crop protection equipment * Irrigation irrigation, in agriculture, artificial watering of the land. Although used chiefly in regions with annual rainfall of less than 20 in. (51 cm), it is also used in wetter areas to grow certain crops, e.g., rice. equipment * Harvesting machines * Machinery for product processing and preservation * Livestock raising machinery * Agro-industry machinery * Machinery for transporting product * Components, spare parts Spare parts, also referred to as Service Parts is a term used to indicate extra parts available and in proximity to the mechanical item, such as a automobile, boat, engine, for which they might be used. Spare parts are also called “spares. and accessories * Machinery for gardening, public green areas, small powered and manually-operated machinery * Miscellaneous agricultural machinery Agricultural machinery is one of the most revolutionary and impactful applications of modern technology. The truly elemental human need for food has often driven the development of technology and machines. The next EIMA will be November 13-16, 2004. Visitor and exhibitor information is available online at www.eima.it and by email at eima@unacoma.it. Technical Innovations The 2003 winners of the annual contest for recognition of Technical Innovation were announced and displayed prominently in EIMA's central administrative area. The contest, initiated 18 years ago, highlights the attention of agricultural machinery manufacturers to technical innovation, with particular attention to ergonomy, safety at work and environmental protection. The contest is sponsored by the Italian Farm Machinery Manufacturers Association, and winners are chosen by a 13-member panel from various sectors of agricultural machinery. Here are the 2003 winners of EIMA's Technical Innovation award, the winning item and the reasons for recognition: * A.D.R. SpA (1)--Hydraulically-controlled rear steering axle for farm trailer, which improves the maneuverability of the tractor-trailer combination when reversing.
