LANCASTER - California League The California League is a minor league baseball league which operates throughout the state of California. Before 2002, it was classified as a "High-A" league, indicating its status as a Class A league with the highest level of competition within that classification, and the fifth  games between the JetHawks and High Desert Mavericks The High Desert Mavericks are a minor league baseball team in Adelanto, California, USA. Their Major League parent club is the Seattle Mariners. They are a "high-A" class team in the California League, and had been a farm team of the Kansas City Royals since 2005 before the switch.  are typically high-scoring affairs.

Thursday night was no different as the Mavericks defeated the JetHawks 11-8 before 2,128 at Lancaster Municipal Stadium.

The JetHawks (17-11), who are in first place in the South Division, saw their lead trimmed to 1 1/2 games as second-place San Bernardino San Bernardino, city, United States

 (15-12) defeated Modesto 11-5.

JetHawks starter Chris Mears (2-1), who allowed eight runs (four earned) and 12 hits in 4 1/3 innings, was the loser.

Hatuey Mendoza (1-1) pitched five innings to get the win for High Desert (11-17).

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, the JetHawks' Craig Kuzmic had a two-run home run and Bo Robinson had a two-run single to key a six-run inning.

The lead did not last long as the Mavericks chased Mears in the top of the fifth.

The JetHawks made three errors, contributing to an eight-run rally that gave High Desert a 9-6 lead.

The JetHawks answered in the bottom of the fifth, when Robinson led with a solo homer to left, and Craig Kuzmic and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-8. Robinson's homer was his first of the season in 96 at-bats.

--Matchup: The JetHawks will send right-hander Melqui Torres (1-2, 5.68 ERA) to face High Desert right-hander John Fleming (2-1, 1.20) at 7:15 tonight at the Hangar.
