EIDC REPORTS LOCATION FILMING UP 38% IN APRIL.

Fueled by the highest level of feature film activity since 2001, location shooting for movies, television shows, commercials and music videos rose a combined 38 percent in April, according to according to

Further good news was a record April for television location shoots, which numbered 1,658 days, a 30 percent increase from a year earlier. But that record number was a significant drop from the 2,466 days recorded in March.

Location shooting for television commercials increased 13 percent, to 537 days, compared with 475 days a year earlier.

``The first several months of the year have had solid numbers,'' said Steve Caplan, the Association of Independent Commercial Producers' senior vice president of external affairs. ``It's certainly an improvement over 2003 and we are hopeful that the trend will continue of seeing increased production activity.''

The EIDC statistics do not reflect production that occurs only on soundstages or in such nearby jurisdictions as Beverly Hills, Pasadena and Santa Monica.
